On February 9, 1895, in the gym of the Young Men's Christian Association in Holyoke, physical education teacher William Morgan came up with a team ball game in which elements of basketball, baseball and handball were mixed, and the net was borrowed from tennis. In the gym, Morgan hung a tennis net at a height of 197 cm and his students began to throw a ball over it.
